NOTES FROM AN ALIEN
I am a white American male. I’m forty-five, heterosexual, and politically independent. I’m also the adoptive son of a black single mother of four, the husband to a black wife, and the father of eight biracial children. I do not live the life of a typical white American male.
I am an alien.
I am many formers. A former moderately-successful underground hip-hop artist, former junior college basketball player, former United States Marine, former resident of the Camp Pendleton Base brig, given a Bad Conduct discharge after methodical and formal insubordination, after finding out the week of boot camp graduation the recruiter had lied to me, and I had joined to play for an All-Marines basketball team that didn’t actually exist.
I am an alien.
I believe in both accountability and forgiveness. I believe truth is rarely found on either side of two extremes. I believe in walking like Jesus, but I also believe most of these humans out here repping His name are walking like Pharisees.
I am an alien.
I believe in setting an alarm clock. I believe in hard work. I believe in living a life of purpose. I know the difference between dreams and goals, and I wish you humans did too.
I am an alien.
I love you humans and I want you to love me back…From a distance.
My ambition with this blog is to help you find your own inner alien. To provide encouragement. To hold you accountable to the You you are destined to become. To share my story and the occasional scrap of insight I’ve learned along the path. So, welcome, you humans. Welcome.
Carpe Diem
An Alien
